Penguin

Hi! In this tutorial you will learn to create hand-painted penguin with 3D eyes and beak. It is so cute idea for winter manicure! So, let’s start!

Step-by-step tutorial

1) Start with nails prep for gel polish application
2) I applied a white gel polish and cured

Penguin 1
3) Using a pencil I sketched my penguin

Penguin 2
4) I painted his eyes, blue details on his hat and scarf with gel polish. Cured

Penguin 3
5) Then I painted him black, added pink details and yellow beak using gel polishes. Cured

Penguin 4
6) I applied white gel polish onto him, painted his mouth in red and the sky in blue-lilac ombre. Cured

Penguin 5
7) I did the 2nd layer of black gel paint, shaded his eyes along the contour with a dark blue gel polish (blue plus black), and highlighted them in the middle with a light blue gel polish (blue plus white). Then I shaded his beak with orange (the mix of yellow and red gel polishes) and highlighted it with light yellow (yellow plus white). Cured a little (it was enough because the layers were thin)

8) In this step I added shades onto his hat using dark blue (blue plus black gel polishes) and highlights using light blue (blue plus white). Also I gave dimension to white parts of my penguin using a grey gel polish (the mix of white and black). Then I added highlights onto his black parts using the mix of a white gel polish and a top coat. Cured a little

Penguin 7
9) I painted the sky using a blue gel polish in the top part and a violet one in the bottom. Also I drew pupils with black gel paint. Cured a little

Penguin 8
10) Furthermore, I contoured my painting (except my blue-pink details) with a fine detailer brush and black gel paint, and added hotspots onto his eyes using white gel paint. Cured 2 minutes in UV lamp or 30 seconds in LED lamp

Penguin 9
11) I covered the nail with a top coat, cured and carefully removed the tacky layer
12) I applied a pink gel polish onto pink details and poured clear acrylic powder on them. (Do not cure!) I carefully removed acrylic powder from his eyes and beak using a brush (do not spoil the pink details!) and made them 3D using clear designer gel. Cured

Penguin 10

13) I wiped off the tacky layer and remains of acrylic powder

14) Then I applied a blue gel polish onto the pink details, poured clear acrylic powder on them and cured

15) Finally, I removed the tacky layer and remains of acrylic powder
Penguin nail design is done!
